all purpose cleaning recipe

Keeping my home clean without toxins is such a high priority. That, along with eating clean foods.

A couple of weeks ago I shared my DIY floor cleaner recipe. It’s so simple and the fact that it’s non-toxic is the biggest reason I’ve decided to star making my own household cleaning products to begin with. My family’s physical health is the most important thing to me. That, and our spiritual healthy – being our relationship with God.

So today, I’m going to share my easy DIY All Purpose Cleaner recipe. As I mentioned in a previous post, I find these recipes online and then adjust them accordingly to my taste.

Non-Toxic DIY All Purpose Cleaner

2 cups of distilled white vinegar
2 cups of water
20 drops of Tea Tree essential oil
10 drops of Sweet Orange essential oil
The essential oil you choose to use is up to you. You can use whatever essential oil you like. I just happen to like this combo because not only does it smell good, the Tea Tree oil has antibacterial properties. Score! A DIY cleaner that can kill bacteria around the house (ex: kitchen counters), smells good and doesn’t cost a fortune? What more can you ask for?

Last week, I shared a green cleaning post on how I’m getting rid of toxins in my home. This post, as well as every post going forward will be part of the Mamavation Blog Carnival.

If you’ve been a reader, you know how I’ve struggled to keep this blog going. Coming up with topics each week has just been something that’s become more of a burden for me since I am writing for another blog.

Thanks to the Mamavation Group, I’ll no longer have to “think” about what I will write about :-) I will write about the topic of the week and make the focus geared to those raising special needs children.

Without further ado, this week I wanted to share my first DIY cleaning recipe that I’ve been using in my home as a way to protect my son from toxins.

My CJ comes in contact with the floor quite a bit. That’s the dirtiest place in every home! Well, it would be if you never cleaned it :-)

In cleaning my floors, I’ve decided to ditch the chemical floor cleaners and make my own. Here’s my recipe:

DIY Floor Cleaner Recipe

In a spray bottle mix:
1 Cup of Distilled Vinegar
1 Cup of 70% Rubbing Alcohol
2 tbspns of Seventh Generation Lemongrass and Clementine Dishwashing Liquid

You can double or 1/2 the recipe to suit the size of the spray bottle you mix the floor cleaner in. I buy the large bottle at the Christmas Tree Shop for only $1

Another surface that special needs kids come in contact with often is dishes. Cleaning dishes with dish washing liquid containing harsh chemicals is not good. These chemicals can eventually find their way into your child’s food. Who wants that? Umm negative.

Now, I haven’t found a DIY recipe for dish washing liquid and that one may be a little more than I’m willing to work with so instead I just purchase dish washing liquid that is naturally derived (like what I use in the floor cleaner recipe) I currently rotate Seventh Generation, Earth Friendly and
Natural dishwashing liquids cost more but they are definitely worth it to protect your special needs child, (your family and yourself too!) from harmful toxins.

How I’m Removing Toxins From My Home

February 17, 2014

Lately, I’ve really been on this cleaning/organizing band wagon. I don’t want it to be a phase either. I’ve made it a regular part of who I am and I thoroughly enjoy cleaning. One of the things I’ve discovered while cleaning is I use way too many commercial products with chemicals.  Having a special needs […]

Mom Time, Work Time or Me Time?

January 29, 2014

Being a mom, it’s easy to become busier than you’d like. Having a special needs child, adds to the mix. It’s been a looooooong while since I’ve written a post that was little more than a blog announcement. January is the month of new beginnings and effectively immediately, I will post weekly. Let’s get to […]

Changes for Special Mom Space

January 14, 2014

First of all, Happy New Year! I know I haven’t posted on here in a while. That’s because I’ve been crazy occupied with my other blog, Radiant Brown Beauty. That’s not to say that my other blog is more important. It’s just that people seem more interested. I don’t want to give up on Special […]

Scripture & Spirit: Keep Calm God Gave You Authority

September 7, 2013

Most well meaning people with respect for God are used to responding to challenging situations with statements like, “God is in control.” While it’s true that God is omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent, He’s not controlling what goes on in the earth. Whaaaaat? Blasphemy you say? Hear me out. If God is in control in the […]

Making Grocery Shopping Responsible but Fun!

August 16, 2013

Grocery shopping has to be one of the most dreaded times of the month for me. Not because I don’t like to shop (Lord knows I do). I just tend to be a little unorganized and sometimes socially irresponsible. You know. Plastic instead of paper. Better yet, using reusable items to purchase your food and […]

Scripture & Spirit: Let’s Celebrate

July 27, 2013

He is risen! That’s something to celebrate about.. Who is He? Jesus of course! Who else? Muhammed is dead and in the grave. Budha is dead and in the grave. Hari Krishna is dead and in the grave. Not to make light of the contribution that these men made to society but none of them […]

Scripture & Spirit: When You Think You’re Alone

July 20, 2013

God said: “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5 Then why do we sometimes feel alone? Why do we sometimes feel like we aren’t able to connect with others? It’s like we’re all alone in this world. I submit to you that it’s highly probable that you are not connecting with the one […]

Unspoken Mom Thoughts and Questions

July 18, 2013

“Do I ever stop being a special needs mom?’ “Are there times when I can put my own needs before my child’s?” “Should I expect regular appreciation from my family for being/doing above and beyond what other moms are/do?” “Moms of kids without special needs don’t get my life” “Should I feel guilty for wanting […]
